Installing an All-in-one printer

Like many of you I waited a long time to buy my All-In-One printer because I couldn't afford the price for what they wanted the suckers for, so when I found one for $70.00 I thought, "Hey I can do that." Brought it home set it up, and was very happy and excited for about a week. Then it stopped working. The computer wouldn't recognize it. It also said that I had an "Unknown Device." So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and then is when my computer said, "Unknown device or a device had malfunctioned." I was so mad. Well I thought okay I'll buy a new USB cable. Did that and still nothng. I felt like I had wasted my money and I was screwed. Well I then called the company that made the thing, and they tried helping me, they decided that the printer had a bad USB Port. They sent me a new All-In-One. When I got it I tried setting it up just like the directions said to. Still nothing, and I still had an unknown device. I was so upset I cried. Then I let it sit for a day, and went back to it again the following day. In the mean time I still had the old All-In-One still sitting here on the floor. Well I had uninstalled, and reinstalled this thing like 7 times at this point and I was ready to kill someone. Well here is what finally fixed it.
I hooked a USB cable to the back of my external modem,
then I plugged the other end into the computer port,
then I plugged another USB cable into another port on my computer,
then plugged that into my printer.
IT WORKED!!!!!
I was so happy I could have screamed. No more unknown device or malfunctioning device. It just worked. I had to put the Install CD in to get the device manager to update the device, but now my computer recognizes the All-in-one, and everything works. I can scan, print, and yes copy. It also makes it so that MP3 players work better, and IPods.
My husband and I looked through all the directions that we got to see if maybe I had just over looked this direction, but no I didn't. The Tech guy that I allowed to take over my computer didn't even know this. So for any of you out there that are having problems with installing you All-in-one. Here is the easiest solution ever.
